LONA thanks...

LONA's President, Mike Visconte, presented the LONA Cookbook to the Deputy Fire Chief  as a small "Thank You" for the consitant high level of service that our Engine 5 provides on a daily basis - as well as the other local houses! Firefighters also attend our meetings and help our members with safety tips and ideas, as well as up-to-date information on the many fires that we have been noticing in our area.

LONA wants to thank and recognize the dedication of our Lyell Branch Library's Head Librarian, Shelley Matthews, for all that she does for our group, and the neighborhood as a whole. She arranges for many great events for our area's children, and these services are greatly needed and appreciated!

LONA also thanks the NSC's (Neighborhood Service Center - formerly the NET) Molly Clifford for attending our meeting, and braving our group's many questions. We invite her to return anytime!

LONA Flowers 2008!

Thank you for the wonderful flowers that were donated by the city's Flower City Looking Good program! Our neighbors/members really appreciate them!

And "thank you" to Mike and Fran for collecting them for us! (I hope all that dirt was easy to remove from your van!)

Nice Homes In Our Lyell-Otis Neighborhood!

One sunny morning in August, I took a drive in the Lyell-Otis neighborhood with our Security officer, Franklin Louk, and took pictures of just a sampling of the beautiful homes in our area! We were out for about three hours, and didn't get to all of our streets! When time allows, and the weather cooperates, we will drive the streets we didn't get to on this day, and post more nice photos.

If you noticed that I missed your well maintained home, or if you have a wonderful garden that I didn't see from the street/sidewalk, PLEASE send me a picture, and I'll happily add it to our website!

This is what the general public should think of when they hear "LYELL", NOT the other, more publicized, yet less accurate description of our area.

This neighborhood has MANY GOOD PEOPLE who:

- are tired of the bad press and negative image associated with our area

- take care and pride in their homes and property

- want to see their property values increase, rather than decrease

- want to celebrate the rich history that is in this neighborhood and the entire City of Rochester!

Please let me know what you think about these photos, either by emailing me at NiceNRG@aol.com, or by leaving a comment on this post.

I hope you enjoy the beauty that is in the Lyell-Otis neighborhood!

I want to see more of it!  HOW ABOUT YOU?!?

Sector 3's National Night Out Against Crime - August 6th, 2007

Thanks go to Mike Visconte for the wonderful photos!

We drove through each of the sector's seven neighborhoods, and then reconvened at the Edgerton Community Recreation Center for free refreshments.

Once again, I was very busy painting kids' faces and arms, and I even enlisted my husband, Ralph, to make balloon animals for the children. He had never done them before, but read the instructions and did his best!

We stayed until each child had a balloon to take home and a painted face to show to their parents! We were so very busy, and worked without stops, that we didn't leave the parking lot until 9pm!  The kids were very appreciative of our efforts, making it all worth it.

I would've liked to see more parents accompanying the youngsters, but perhaps they'll be able to join us next time...

JP Riley Playground Dedication Ceremony photos from Joey Visconte

As you may have seen in the pictures, all the kids present received free brand new bicycle helmets! Thank you to Allstate's Injury Free Coalition For Kids and Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong! (If anyone else helped with this funding, please let me know, so you can be recognized! I don't intend to omit anyone!)
