LONA's National Night Out Against Crime - August 1st, 2006

These pictures were taken at LONA's National Night Out Against Crime on August 1st, 2006.

LONA is very grateful to our generous sponsors of this event:

The Rochester Area Community Foundation, NYS Assembly Member Susan John, Monroe County Legislator Carla Palumbo, Wegmans, and the Cameron Street Block Club.

LONA also would like to thank the Deacon Van Smith and the Church Of Christ, at 469 Lyell Avenue, for hosting our event!

We didn't get as many folks to attend as we had hoped due to the extreme heat and humidity that day. As a matter of fact, many local "Night Out" events had been announced as being cancelled on the TV and radio news that day, so we think that many people believed that we had cancelled as well. We are hoping for cooler temperatures next year! Plus, we'll set up a sprinkler for the kids! (And for the adults as well!)

We gave away grilled hot dogs and chilled soda pop to everyone. For the kids, we handed out: candy, balloons, pencils, pens, erasers, and safety whistles, and they also had the opportunity to have their faces, arms and hands painted as well!

Tons of information was available for people to take with them, on many different subjects. The handouts included:

- lead abatement and grant information for landlords and home owners through the City of Rochester

- listings of the great homes that were rehab'd and are currently available in our area through the NCS - Northwest Community Developement Services

- pamphlets from Cameron Community Ministries which detailed their mission and offered opportunities for the community to donate needed items to help their clients

- the Frequently Called Numbers card from the NET office, which can help connect residents with the appropriate deparment in the city's government

LONA was very happy to see our officials come out and join in our fun! Mayor Duffy stopped by and graciously posed with our Westside Police Commender - Russ Coriddi; NYS Assembly Member Susan John and Councilmembers Dana Miller and Adam McFadden came to support LONA's efforts as well. The Chief of Police - David B. Moore came by with many officers as well, and the kids loved checking out the police car with all the bells and whistles! Fire House #5 brought over a truck and showed the kids the fire fightingequipment and suits.

THANK YOU to all for helping make this a fun and informative event!

Thanks again to Mike and Fran Visconte for the wonderful pictures!

Sector 3's National Night Out Against Crime - July 31st, 2006

These photos were taken at the Sector 3's National Night Out Against Crime on July 31st, 2006.

The motorcade was warmly received throughout the neighborhoods as we drove, and it certainly deterred any "bad" activities from going on while we were around! (he-he!)

We all gathered at Edgerton Recreation Communty Center afterward. A lot of kids joined in the evening, and enjoyed playing with the pinatas that NYS Assembly member Susan John and LONA donated for this event.

It is always great to have so many concerned neighbors in one spot when we can celebrate a happy occassion!

Thanks to LONA's current and former Presidents, Mike and Fran Visconte, for the wonderful photos!
